Symbols: When and when not to use them

I am having trouble understanding when symbols are allowed.


* Weapons: Death messages
* Chat (Didn't think so)
* Tools and Armor
* Normal Items and Blocks (Stick, Wool, Leather, etc.)
When are they allowed? An admin's response would be helpful.

It probably depends on the symbol

That is what I mostly mean, Taslekio. Except the symbols might be unicode characters, like ☕ or ☺. They would be renamed using an anvil.
