im not sure if this is a glitch o just me but it seems that i cannot get the hopper to feed into a chest, i have watched numerous videos on youtube and i am definatly doing the correctly but like i said this could be a case of lag whilst trying to create my chicken farm  ???

What you want to do is first make sure that the hopper is going directly into the chest or another hopper. Then make sure you have unlocked the hopper and hopper(s)/chest that it is going to. Hope that helps. If it doesn't just come back here.
