PS Grid
« Opened on December 14, 2013, 11:30:49 PM »
I have a mass of precious stones that are only 20 blocks apart and I'm planning to completely redo my entire area into an overhead grid.  How high up should I put them.  I do have things that are more that 64 blocks high (1 building at 128 blocks).

If they are diamond blocks there should be 40 in between each stone and can be placed anywhere from Y1-Y250. Diamond blocks cover an area that is 41x41x250. Unless that has changed...

It's technically 41x512x41. You can put the diamond block anywhere and it will cover sky to bedrock. We did this specifically so no one can build on top of another player regardless of where the diamond block is placed.

wasnt it ? 41*265*41
In the nether i placed them all on bedrock below, so just above the bedrock on top i get spawns of pigmen (into natural pigmen farm)
For the fires base in the overworld , i therefore placed them at something like 132 Y

... yeah you're right, thanks for the correction. I get confused sometimes because the config has 20 set as a horizontal radius and 256 as a height. That being said, it's set to 512 now :P We'll see how that goes. There was a reason it was set to only 256 instead of 512 but I don't think it will be a big problem anymore.

Anyone who wants their stone to cover 512 vertically will have to break it and replace it. Existing stones will retain the original 256 height.

How about we just figure out how many diamond blocks it would take to cover our area, pay 4 times the block chest shop value, and get a region.

Problem.  Solved.

The old stones will keep working just fine. Many players probably won't even notice anything has changed.
