I have determined today that obtaining more xp will also restore the amount of xp that you are supposed to have.

If you switch worlds, you will lose all your EXP. However, its only a visual glitch! Kill something, and you will have all your EXP back. This is likely to get fixed in 1.4.

No no, I believe Mojang is working on 2 branches of Minecraft at the moment, there is a 1.3 bugfixing branch as well as the 1.4 features branch.  ;D
