Hey everybody!
I'm most likely not the only player that has Mid-Terms (Cumulative exams that assess everything you've learned in the first semester of school) coming up next week, so I thought that it would be a good idea to make a post about studying. I'll post some helpful tips and tricks that I have regarding studying for big tests, and you guys can post about some of the strategies you use yourselves
Maybe i'll see a strategy that I want to try out and that might help me ace these exams.
Some tips:
-The simple act of organizing my notes/binder is really helpful. When going through it, seeing all the notes from past units acts as a memory refresher, and then my notes are organized and ready to go for when I start studying
-Don't cram! You benefit more when your study schedule is spread out, and it's harder to remember information if you only have one or two huge study sessions.
-Utilize all the materials and resources (such as study/review guides) that your teachers provide you. They are the ones who wrote the test, after all, so they know exactly which things you should focus on!
-Go over past notes and tests and see which units you really understood and the areas that you struggled with. Study your weaknesses first! It won't be helpful if you study something you already have the hang of before looking at things you aren't so sure of.
-Trying to memorize thousands of vocabulary words a few days before a test is a daunting task. For most people, index and note cards are a huge help. For me, I use an amazing website called Quizlet.com
Signing up is free, and you can make online sets of note cards for yourself, study other user's sets, play games (Like scatter, which scrambles the words), and even take practice tests!
-Study groups are really helpful, even if it's just you and one other person. You can teach each other things while at the same time learning a bit more yourself. However, be careful! If you know you and your best friend get distracted easily, a study group is probably not the best idea
-Eat and sleep well! Eating power foods, like fruits and veggies, gives you the energy you need to get going while helping your memory along the way. Sleeping well is the same way
Exercise is also a big one- It can relieve tension in your muscles from sitting down and studying for so long, and make you more alert (and burn off all the study snacks
).
-Take breaks as well (But don't make them too long!). Studying for hours on end is tough. Breaks are something to look forward to and they give you a chance to recharge your energy.
I'd love to hear about all the strategies you guys use when studying for tests! Hopefully some of my tips work well for you, and hopefully I can learn a few more ways to prepare from your responses
