7 sticks makes 3 ladders
6 sticks makes 2 fences
2 sticks are used in making a pickaxe

12 ladders + 4 fences + 1 pickaxe = 3(4) ladders + 2(2) fences + 1 pickaxe = 4(7) sticks + 2(6) sticks + 2 sticks = 28+12+2= 42 sticks
