General Discussion / July Donation Sale
« on: June 30, 2014, 11:13:55 PM »
Hello Famcrafters! We will be featuring 50% off of all donor items and donor permissions up to the $300 level perms during the entire month of July! That's right, July 1- July 31st, 2014 ONLY. (*sale does NOT include jobs xp)

In the past, only donation items such as picks were available for a discounted price. During this very special, one time only sale, donor permissions will also be 50% off. This includes half priced /kit torch  (normally at $20) /back (normally at $30), /hat (normally at $50),  Deathchest (normally at $200) and yes,  /Fly (normally at $300).

Only funds donated between July 1st and July 31st 2014 will count towards this sale. (With the exception of the few players who donated within the 3 days prior to the sale date and waited till July 1st to claim their items, for those players their funds will count towards their July donations)

This will be our final pre-EULA compliance sale. We do plan to be fully EULA compliant on August 1st, 2014. Any and all donor perks/donor items in place as of July 31, 2014 will indeed remain in place. No perks or items will be removed from donors as a result of the EULA. Any credit on file will remain available as it always has been, to be used at the convenience of the donor at any time.

In order to ensure we can follow the recently clarified Minecraft EULA guidelines while keeping all donor items and perks in place, on August 1, 2014 ,  we will be offering the vast majority of our main donor perks in game, for Famcoins. The in game prices will be very high, but the perks and items will be available through regular gameplay.

This will allow us to be well within Mojang's expectations as per this quote from the Mojang EULA "Follow-up Q&A"

Quote
How should servers deal with users who have already spent hard currency on features that affect gameplay?
Users may keep the perks they’ve paid for on the condition that the same perks are available to other players on the server (directly or purchasable using soft currency).

Dear Famcrafters,

It has come to our attention that the number of clan related "griefs" being reported is on the rise. We would like to offer some clarification and guidelines to help prevent unnecessary banning of your fellow Famcrafters.

We would like to implement some new clan grief reporting guidelines.

In the event of a clan grief please take the following steps:

1.) Report the grief to a staff member.

*The staff member will evaluate the scene, and if it is obviously a true grief, they will report it, or ban as needed.

*If there is a possibility it is not a true grief, the staff member will still make a report, but may ask you to /mail send [playername] to communicate about the damage.

2.) Ask the staff member to tell you the name of the player who did the damage.

3.) Communicate.

*If the player is in game, /msg [playername] and ask them politely to come repair the damage.

*If the player is NOT in game, /mail send [playername] and ask them politely to repair the damage.

4.) Wait. Be patient, and give the player time to reply to your message. You can use the /seen page located at: http://tools.famcraft.com/seen/ to determine when the player was last online. Please give the player at least 2 days to reply.

5.) If the player repairs the damage, you do not need to do anything else.

6.) If the player does not repair the damage once he or she has been informed of the situation, please use /clan kick [playername] to remove the player from your clan, and then let a staff member know that the issue was not resolved. This information will be added to the original report, and we will look into the situation as soon as possible.

Always remember, Clan leaders are not helpless, and not every clan issue requires staff involvement. As a clan leader YOU can help set the clan's rules, YOU control who you let in your clan, YOU control who you give access to your clan area precious stones and chests, and YOU can /clan kick if a player is not following the rules of your clan. If you kick a player, you will need to allow them enough access to remove their things from the clan home area, before removing them from the clan area precious stones. You can not keep the items of a member you /clan kick.

Here are some things YOU can do to minimize actual griefing, as well as simple misunderstandings in your clan area.

1.) At your /clan home , post rules clearly stating what is expected of your clan members. Ask all new members to read the rules.

A few examples of clan rules you might want to have:

*Please build at least  __ blocks from the clan home.

* Please build at least __ blocks from other clan members homes.

*Please make sure to replant what you harvest.

*Please cut down the whole tree-  do not leave tree tops in the area.

*Please help restock clan storage if you take items from it.

*Please do not break or place any blocks in the clan home

*Please repair anything you accidentally break

*Please do not place any new chests in the clan area

*Please do not leave locked chests, furnaces, anvils or signs in the clan area

*Please do not leave pets in the clan area

*Please do not make unauthorized changes to the clan grounds.

2.) Clearly mark areas of your clan "Clan Garden", "Clan Mine", "Clan Storage". These types of labels can help avoid confusion.  Make sure, as a clan owners you realize that it will always be assumed that clan areas and clan resources are allowed to be shared by all clan members.

3.) Make sure your clan area is clearly defined. Fences, walls or any other type of  visible borders can help players understand what you mean by "clan area".

4.) Make sure your clan is properly protected by Precious Stones

5.) Get to know/trust your clan members a little before adding them to all of your precious stones fields.

6.) Make yourself available for clan questions by in game mail. Take the time to answer questions your clan members may have about clan storage spaces and resources.

7.) Use your clan bulletin board! /bb clear will clear your bb, and /bb add [message] will allow you to add a new message. /clan bb add *The fountain in the center of the clan home is under construction - Please do not alter it in any way* <-- helps players know what is going on.

__________

When you DO spot a "grief", feel free to ask a staff member to come check it out, and let you know who it was that did the damage.

Then, take a few important things into consideration.

1.) Do you believe the player was intentionally trying to cause damage to the area?

2.) How many blocks are affected?

3.) Could lag have contributed to the damage you see?

4.)Is it possible the player intends to repair the damage, but had to log off before they could?

5.) Has this player caused other damage in the past?

6.) Is it possible the player was using a small render distance and did not realize how close he was to the clan area? (Small render distance)

7.) Did the player think he was "helping" the clan? (New garden, storage room expansion)

8.) If you asked the player what happened, what do you think he would say? Do you think he would be willing to repair the damage or reverse the changes?

9.) Did the player make any effort to repair the damage? Example: Broke smooth stone, replace it with cobblestone.

10.) If something similar was found that YOU had done, why would you have done it? What would you hope would happen? What disciplinary action would you expect?

Real clan griefs DO happen. We all know this, sadly. Moderate amount of broken blocks, random blocks placed about in an obvious attempt to deface an area, locked signs with unpleasant messages. These types of things are clearly griefs and will always be dealt with accordingly.

But one stone block missing from a walkway? A block of glass on a spawner, where someone was likely swinging a sword?  A row of crops that was not replanted? It would be much nicer to ask the player in question to repair the damage, than to expect an instant tempban from staff.

We will be asking some players to use the /mail send feature to try to communicate with the clan members a bit better before passing out bans. One of the benefits of having a strong community like ours is having the ability to work out minor issues on occasion, without too much staff involvement. We look forward to seeing more players practice good communication, and hope to see less clan related bans in the future.

Thank you all for being amazing. <3

General Discussion / EULA
« on: June 19, 2014, 10:37:35 AM »

Here at Famcraft, we are well aware of all the EULA discussion going on around the social networks. We are also aware of the clarifications Mojang has added to their own website.

Please do not be alarmed by all the "news" you may be seeing.Keep in mind, a lot of discussion you see that is not posted directly on the Mojang website, is just panic/speculation.
Also, please do not join in on the Mojang/Minecraft negativity. They did provide us all with this game we enjoy so much.  8)

The admin team wants you to know you have nothing to worry about. We will take care of Famcraft, as we always have, and everything will be fine. No worries.  8)

While we do not mind questions and discussions on this topic. We do ask that this topic be kept in this thread only, so the forum does not become cluttered with random info. Any other other threads made about this topic will be relocated or removed.

We would also like to ask that this topic remain upbeat, polite, and respectful to all players and staff, as well as Mojang.  <3

Famcraft Survival / Famcraft CREATIVE SERVER day Wed. 6-11-2014!!!
« on: June 10, 2014, 06:19:13 PM »
Ok yall! There s good news, and there is fun news, which do you want first? :O

Good news? The good news is, we are relocating the actual physical hardware that houses the survival and FTB servers! Yay! :D
This will put the hardware closer to Micah, so if we ever have server issues, Micah will be right there to get us back in shape ASAP! :D

Now, don't worry- absolutely nothing will change. The map will be the same, the inventories, every single detail of Famcraft will be 100% exactly, absolutely the same as it is right this very moment. NO data will be changed or effected in any way. We are ONLY relocating the actual machine that hosts the server.

This means the hardware will be disconnected, loaded into a vehicle, and transported to a new location, then set in place, and hooked back up. The survival server will be offline for up to 12 hours while this move occurs.

But.. what about the FUN news??

The FUN news is, as the title of this post probably gave away...  We will be hosting a temporary  Famcraft CREATIVE  server for ONE day! Tomorrow, Wed June 11, 2014.

This means you can test all those weird red stone contraptions, spawn yourself a bunch of villagers, build that diamond mansion you have always dreamed of,  and swim in the lava with your Famcraft friends! (Lava bathing = the Admins favorite pastime)

Mumble, music, irc and the forum will all be up and running as usual. Staff will be online to help with any issues.

Because this is a temporary server, nothing will be saved/kept, so make sure you take plenty of screen shots to remember all the fun. :D Feel free to share some of those screenshots in this thread so we can all see what Famcrafters like to build when they have unlimited resources.

We will look forward to seeing you all there tomorrow. You will automatically connect to the creative server when you join survival.famcraft.com the same way you normally do. There is no need to add a server, or edit anything in your server client list. Just join Famcraft and play :D

The rules are the same family friendly rules we all know and love. :D

 See you there!

Ender Estates and Dragon Spawners FAQ

Q.Hey, I thought these were only available to players who had donated $500 or more irl money to the server. Are they available to everyone now?

A. Yes! The Ender Estates islands are now available for purchase for 15 million Famcoins to anyone who has "Specialty Shop" Access (Formerly known as the Donor Shop) regardless of if the player gained access to the shop through irl money donations, or via Famcoin purchase. This change was made because Famcraft wishes to be fully Minecraft EULA compliant.

Q. What are Dragon Spawners?

A. Dragons spawners are not actually cage-style spawners at all. They are command blocks that are set to spawn a single dragon each time a button is pressed.

Command blocks can only be set up by an Admin, in creative mode. Command blocks are not available as in in game item for players. Command blocks are an admin only too.

Q. I keep seeing death messages in the game, telling me an EnderDragon is killing players. Where are they spawning? Am I in danger of being killed by a stray dragon?

A. These dragons are being spawned by players who own a spawner located in a completely private End World. The dragons are killed once they have been spawned. The dragons can not get to the main world. You are safe.

Q. I don't hear dragons in the overworld anymore when a player spawns one. Why not?

A. Micah himself created a very special plugin to remove the sounds from the overworld to prevent disrupting players from their regular gameplay.

Q. I heard a rumor there were dragons spawning in the Nether. Is the Nether safe from dragons?

A. These dragons that were spotted in the nether did not actually spawn there. The Dragons were spawned in a private End world, and then they flew through a StarGate that had the purple portal center. No one told the dragons these were StarGates, so they dragons assumed they were Nether portals, and went to the Nether, instead of visiting the correct StarGate destination.
This situation has been rectified by replacing the StarGates that caused the issue, with StarGates that have the water-style centers. No more confused EnderDragons.
EnderDragons can not normally pass through regular StarGates. Only Nether Portals. No nether portals will be near the dragons. The Nether will remain free of dragons.

Q. How much do dragon spawners cost?

A. Dragon spawners are intended as a unique item for players who work hard to afford  them. They are located on individual private end islands. As a result, they are priced at 15 million Famcoins.

Once a player has purchased Specialty Shop (formerly known as the Donor Shop) access with Famcoins in the game, they have the option of purchasing a private end island, which includes a dragon spawner, for 15 million Famcoins (in game money)

Q. These used to be only available to $500 + irl money donors. Why shouldn't I ask or talk about how much real money players have donated? Isn't this acceptable in game conversation?

A. Discussing real money in group settings is never in good taste. People come from all different economical backgrounds and are all ages.
Some players donate if they can, when they can, others donate on a regular basis. Donating may be easier for some players than it is for others, and for other's still, donating is not an option at all.
It can make all players, from top donors, to brand new non-donor players uncomfortable to discuss real life money in game.
I have been asked how much I have donated to the server myself. It always makes me very uncomfortable to be asked, and I do not answer this question.
You can always read more about donation levels on the form here: https://famcraft.com/index.php?action=treasury
Or feel free to contact an admin directly by forum mail with any questions you might have. Admin will never reveal the exact amount a player has donated, or reveal who has gifted a donation to a player.

Q. Will you run out of private islands/spawners?

A. No. We currently have 8 set up and readily available. We can create more, if we end up needing more.

Q. That's not fair, it only helps the players who can afford to spend 15 million Famcoins, right? What about the other players?

A. Our players, tend to be generous, clever, resourceful people. Keep an eye on their mall shops and chat, for opportunities you may not have had in the past.  More dragons on the server means more xp bottles and more dragon eggs for sale to players. Have you ever wanted a dragon egg? You are far more likely to be able to buy one now that there will be more available on the server.

Q. Will the dragon spawner owners be selling access to their spawners?

A. This is entirely up to each individual owner. Once they pay 15 million Famcoins for their island and spawner, it is entirely up to them what they do with it.

Q. Do dragon spawner owners have any special rules?

A. The only things we ask is that they do not sell ownership of the actual island/spawner, they do not bring players to the main private End Island StarGate room, and that when dragon eggs are sold in shops- they price the eggs at  500k per egg or more.

Q. Will the Admins still occasionally spawn dragons for players? Will I ever be able to fight a dragon myself?

A. Absolutely. We usually spawn a few dragons at least once a month or so. We enjoy seeing a nice crowd on line, and spawning a few dragons just for fun. This will not change. We will still be spawning dragons for everyone once in a while. We will not do this upon request, but rather when we see a good crowd on the server for it.

In these public EnderDragon fights, whoever gets the xp gets it, and whoever gets the egg, gets it.

Q. Can I at least see what the Private End islands with the dragon spawners looks like?

A. Sure:

Ender Estates StarGate Room

StarGate to private island

Dragon Spawner - command block spawner, press the button- get a dragon

Private End isle. You are seeing correctly, there are no Endercrystals there. This is intentional, for ease of dragon fighting. Spawning in new EnderCrystals also causes a lot of client lag. So we prefer to have the islands available without the crystals.

Famcraft Tutorials, Links and Info / Optifine
« on: May 12, 2014, 09:06:27 PM »
What is Optifine?

Optifine is a free client mod that you can use to help your Minecraft run more smoothly, feel faster, and look better.

Optifine can help you get better fps. Better fps can reduce that feeling some players describe as "lag". Low fps is not true lag- but it does make you feel like you are moving slower, so it is often mistaken for lag.

Optifine allows you to configure many new options in Minecraft by adding additional settings. It can be very helpful for older, or slower computers, or those relying on on board video chips, instead of a graphics card.

Optifine is easy to install, and even easier to use. The options are not "hidden" or difficult to navigate. They are under your normal Minecraft>Options>Video Settings section. You'll just see more settings there than you do without Optifine.

I use Optifine myself, and it doubles my fps. It is difficult for me to enjoy the game without it.

What are some of the optional settings Optifine offers?

Optifine adds A LOT of new options. We won't go over every one here, but these are my favorite fps-saving options:

Variable Render Distance (example)
- from Tiny to Extreme (2 x Far) in 16m steps
- sun, moon and stars are visible in Tiny and Short distance
Configurable Smooth Lighting (examples)
- from 1% - smooth lighting without shadows
- to 100% - smooth lighting with full shadows

Clear Water
Clear, transparent water with good visibility underwater

Connected Textures
Connects textures for glass, glass panes, sandstone and bookshelf blocks which are next to each other.

Configurable Details
- Clouds - Default, Fast, Fancy
- Cloud Height - from 0% to 100%
- Trees - Default, Fast, Fancy

How do I download and install Optifine? (For Windows, Mac, and Linux)

**Please make sure you have a parent/guardian/PC owner's permission before downloading files on their computer**

There are several versions of OptiFine available at any given time. For the tutorial, I will use OptiFine HD Ultra for Minecraft 1.16.5,  as it should work for most players.

1.) Make sure you have Minecraft 1.16.5 installed on your PC

You can do this by closing your game and opening the launcher

Choose "Installations" near the top of the launcher
Click "⊕ New..." near the top of that screen
Name it 1.16.5 (or anything you like)
Under version selection choose "release 1.16.5"
 Save Profile
Click "Play" to load the 1.16.5 files
Close Minecraft after it finishes and starts the game up

2.) Download the Optifine HD Ultra installation file for 1.16.5 here:

http://optifine.net/downloadx?f=OptiFine_1.16.5_HD_U_G7.jar

3.) Locate and run the Optifine file you downloaded.

You can double click the file to run it. If you can not find the file, check your  Downloads folder.

When you run the file, click the option to "Install"

You will see a message that says: "OptiFine successfully installed"

4.) Start the Minecraft launcher.
*Near the bottom of the launcher, near the green "Play" button, click the version selection button " ⌵ "
*In the dropdown menu that appeared, find and click: OptiFine-1.16.5_HD_U_G7
 *Click Play

5.) Play as is, or adjust the options under:  Options > Video Settings

 Good Luck!

General Discussion / Quoting to quote
« on: May 10, 2014, 08:23:55 PM »
Quoting to quote is forum spam. It takes up unnecessary space, and makes viewing the forum on mobile devices difficult. Please stop spamming the forum with this.

The quote option is supposed to be used when a lot of conversation is occurring, and you need to make it clear which statement , by which poster you are replying to.

You can also use it if you plan to make a point based on what another poster has said, or otherwise need to draw attention to it.

When you quote just to quote, it makes a mess of the forum, and makes viewing the forum from mobile devices ... well very unpleasant.

Many players and staff members do view the forum from tablets, phones, and ipods. Many of us go to the most recent posts first: https://famcraft.com/index.php?action=recent

When we go there, and have multiple pages of quotes to struggle through before we can get to actual real posts, it can be not-so-cool.

We have deleted posts and locked threads made up of quotes like this in the past to try to politely let everyone know that it's not a good idea to spam the forum with quotes. It has failed to work, so I will be a bit more direct-  Kindly make an effort to use the quote feature for it's intended purpose, please.

General Discussion / IRC and Usernames
« on: May 05, 2014, 01:42:20 PM »
Hello Famcrafters!

As many of you know, we offer IRC chat as an optional way for our players to stay in touch with Famcraft, even when they are not actively in game.

The IRC option is located on the Famcraft Forum, and is the option labeled "chat". You can simply click on "chat" Then enter a user name to start chatting away with other Famcrafters who are actively in game or on IRC.

In the past, we have always asked that IRC user names either be your complete in-game-name or your current in-game nick name. This rule was set in place at the time IRC became an option for Famcraft.

We believe the time has come for a change in this IRC name rule. While the Famcraft community is always growing and welcoming new members, it is also a close-knit community. We can easily recognize most players with any reasonable amount of information in a username.

This means, you can omit numbers or duplicate characters from your in-game-name or use a recognizable part of your in-game-name, or nickname.

We do ask that you do NOT add on to your user name, unless you are staff, or wish to identify the device you are using for irc. Example: Helper-Fuz7y is fine for Fuz7ybob, or Egi_Phone is okay for  Egi, However The_Amazing_PlayerNameHere would not be okay for Playername. Try to keep your name to the point, as a way to identify who you are on the server.

It is also important that you ONLY use your own unique name to represent yourself. Never, ever log in with any part of any other player or staff member's name. We can tell who is on irc, so pretending to be someone you are not can only get you banned.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this. We look forward to seeing you all on IRC.

Famcraft Tutorials, Links and Info / New PvP Arenas at /warp PvP
« on: April 16, 2014, 02:25:22 PM »
We have added /warp pvp, which features six basic PvP arenas.

These are not the most exciting arenas in the world, they are just places to fight.  One of these does allow flight, like the statue competition area. Yes, they are all the same design, with different materials, lol, but they are slightly better than nothing at all.

All PvP Rules apply normally in these arenas. You must provide your own weapons/armor.

Larger arena for  bigger groups of players:

Swampy Pond arena:

Ice arena:

Nether arena: (No exposed lava, we do not want players to lose their items)

Team arena:

Fly arena: (Flight is enabled here)

Server Rules

Following the rules will make your experience on Famcraft more enjoyable!

1 - Griefing (defacing) another player's property or stealing another player's items is not allowed. We use extensive logging plugins on Famcraft. We record every action you perform, every item you touch, and every word you type ingame via chat, private message, clan chat, and sign text. We store all this information for many months. There is no statute of limitations on punishing players for griefing. You will never get away with it so don't bother trying. Instead, enjoy Famcraft knowing these plugins will also protect YOUR property from griefers!

2 - Deliberate misspelling of words to evade the swear filter is not allowed. If you type words that are caught by the filter, please use the warnings you receive as a lesson of what kind of words are not allowed on Famcraft.

3 - Abusive, racist, sexual, drug-related, belligerent, political, anti-political, religious, anti-religious, and inflammatory chat is not allowed in posts, text, skin, shapes of structures built ingame, text in signs, private messages, or nick/screen names. Remember, we log everything you type everywhere, always, and we keep logs forever. Famcraft is all about Minecraft, not your beliefs or lack of beliefs. These restrictions include a ban on any speech or actions that are commonly considered inappropriate when directed toward children. Among other reasons but mostly because we allow people of all ages to play on Famcraft, we have zero tolerance for any attempted exploitation of children.

4 - Trading, linking to, or discussing illegal material (games, software, movies, pornography, etc.) is not allowed.

5 - Do not discuss other servers while using any of Famcraft's services. That includes talking bad about other servers, too. While we appreciate players wanting to share their experiences from other servers, many new players join the server only to advertise their own server. Devious players we punish for breaking other rules often try to advertise other servers to draw people away from Famcraft out of spite. Due to these types of examples, we don't allow discussion of any other server while in-game, on mumble, or in our forums.

6 - Using any client modifications to cheat on Famcraft is not allowed. Cheating includes such activities as flying when not allowed, placing multiple blocks with one action, speed walking, and seeing through blocks. Two specific client mods which are allowed (and recommended) are Rei's Minimap and Optifine.
   - Rei's Minimap: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/482147-
   - Optifine: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/249637-
   - We also recommend Magic Launcher for easily installing the above mods: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/939149-
   - You may use many other client mods but we can't make a complete list of them. Acceptable client mods include most minimaps, inventory tweak/sorting, and others that do not give you a competitive advantage over other players. If you are unsure about whether a mod is safe to use here, just ask a staff member about it and they'll be glad to help.

7 - Harassment of other players is not allowed.

8 - Persistent hassling of Staff members for anything is not allowed. This includes world-editing, protections, or items, among other things.

9 - Spamming is not allowed. This includes using caps or excessive amounts of a letter or character. We will not argue this topic. ex: 111111111 - is considered spamming. More examples of spam: https://famcraft.com/index.php/topic,1841.0.html

10 - Do not ask to become a staff member. We choose staff members only after observing you for several months.

11 - English is the official language on Famcraft. We have players from all around the world and English is the most common language among them, so please use only English in the public chat and forum posts. You MAY use other languages in clan chat and personal messages. However, be advised that we make use of automated translations to ensure the non-English messages are in line with other Famcraft rules.

12 - Player vs. player combat is not allowed unless all participants agree to fight and agree on the terms of the combat. By default, your ability to hurt another player is disabled. This can be toggled with the /pvp  command. However, the other player must also issue the /pvp command. Some things you will need to make an agreement about include whether you will keep or return items a dead player drops and if you are allowed to grief each others' property/homes/clans. Issuing the agreement in chat or written on signs is sufficient. These rules exist to stop players from bullying each other.
