We had a big spambot problem when we first set up the forums.
-
What is a spambot?
-
A spambot is a fake account that is used to advertise products or link to malicious websites. Think of it as a person that sends junk emails to you.
-
I hate it when that happens. How do you know if someone is a spambot. Doesn't the player log into Minecraft and join the server then create an account or do they just google web sites and make false accounts and advertise or be annoying.
-
I look trough the memberlist and if I see that they have a website advertising some type of irrelevant products like handbags ,I assume it is a fake account. I just hover my mouse over the link.. I do not actually click on them.
-
We implemented that check at registration which requires you to identify the minecraft block and since then, the spambot registrations have dropped to about zero. Have you been finding any road?
-
I don't see posts anymore at all... I just see fake accounts with links to advertisements.
-
Hmmm... I'll try to keep an eye on that too then. It's likely that a human is doing the registration process but then the bot is failing at posting...
