Famcraft Tutorials, Links and Info / How to find your coordinates
« on: February 12, 2015, 03:05:28 PM »
We receive a lot of Admin request with no coordinates or coords that have been noted incorrectly. This post is intended to help explain what coords are, and how to find them.

Coordinates are the numbers used to explain your exact position on the map. (Or even on the Earth irl! But this is about Minecraft). Your coordinates change with every single step you take. :O  Your Minecraft coordinates are made up of 3 numbers. Those numbers are known as your X,Y and Z coordinates.

I found this great image to help illustrate how these coordinates work:

(Credit: "Coord system CA 0" by Jorge Stolfii - listed as public domain, modified by us to fit with Minecraft's coordinate system)

To find your coordinates on Minecraft on a Windows based pc, press the F3 key. On a Mac, I believe you will need to press FN AND F3 at the same time.

This should display a screen with all kinds of numbers and info. It will look like this:

But you only need to focus on one area of this information, which I have color coded here:

You only need the numbers I have highlighted green, the x,y and z numbers. You can ignore everything from the blue colored decimal point onward. We do not need that information. Please pay close attention to the x,y and z numbers. Sometimes there is an "-" in front, a minus sign, noting that it is a negative coordinate. There is a world of difference between x: 501, y:71 , z:1,687 and x: 501, y:71 , z:-1,687. Please make sure you always include the proper "-" sign but ONLY if it is actually present, don't use it for a spacer or divider symbol when you are noting coordinates.

Another option is to stand in one place and type /coords

This will provide information about your coordinates. Again, we ONLY need the x,y and z number here:

If you need coordinates for a platform or world edit way up in the sky, it's okay to simply add to your Y coordinate. You do not actually have to block jump up there if you know about how high up you would like the platform to be.

For example, if you are standing at x:501,y:70, z:1687 on the ground is your "y" level: 70 .
If the ground is y level 70, and you want a platform about 50 feet up, then you can say 70 + 50 = 120. You now know you want your platform placed at level y:120.
You would replace your y coordinate with this new number. Your new coords would be  x:501,y:120,z:1678.

When you are providing coordinates for an Admin request, take into consideration what you actually want or need done. Some requests only need one coordinate, while others need two or more.

If you need  a spawner placed, we only need ONE coordinate. We need to know where you would like the spawner placed.

If you need a home moved, we need coordinates to the old location, and the new location.

If you want a platform placed, or land cleared in a very precise area, we need coordinates for two diagonally opposite corners.

However.. if you need a dirt platform placed or land cleared in a less exact area, you can always give us a single coordinate, and say something similar to "I would like a 100x100 area of land cleared to seal-level. The center should be: x:#####,y:##,z:####."  We can work with that just fine as long as you make sure to type the coordinates correctly.

Forum Games / Forum Game Rules
« on: February 11, 2015, 05:29:24 PM »
Welcome to the new Famcraft Forums game category! As per the request of several forum members, we have added a brand new section just for forum games.

The forum games in the general category were getting a bit out of control. Forum games can quickly become spammy and make it more difficult to find other information on the forum.

We ask that you keep all forum games in this section. All server and forum rules still apply. In addition, we ask that you not intentionally use GIANT text sizes or quote quotes just to quote quotes.

Games need to remain polite and respectful. If something you type makes you hesitate before you hit "post" then please read it again before you submit it. We've had to remove quite a few posts that were not within Famcraft's rules and guidelines, or were mean or otherwise distasteful. Please be careful with what you post here.

As this is is section for community games, I am also asking that it be partially community moderated. If you see an offensive post here, please report it to a staff member or post in the thread located here: https://famcraft.com/index.php/topic,8604.msg48842.html#msg48842

This section, like all sections of the forum may periodically be cleaned up to reduce clutter.

 Have fun!

General Discussion / Name change issues - Please Post here
« on: February 04, 2015, 08:55:52 PM »
We are aware Mojang now allows name changes. If you have changed your name- Congrats on the new name! Please be prepared to wait up to 7 days for full access to all of your protections, your clan and other name related things AFTER you notify an Admin. If you do not notify an Admin, we can not help you. This process is not automatic and requires an Admin to input information in order for your things to transfer from one name to the other. Please make sure you remain patient.

If you DO NOT notify an Admin we CAN NOT help you.

 - You can send forum mail

- Send in game mail

- Send a help request ticket (visit /warp admin)

- post on the name change forum

This is NOT an automatic process. Name change switch-overs must be manually initiated by an Admin when the server is shut down.
We do not mind doing this once, but for players changing there names every 30 days, expect longer delays.

If you are having name change issues please post your old name and new name here.

Please note: Posts here that are confirmed fixed will be removed, to keep clutter to a minimum. So if you don't see your post here, it means you're all good now.

Famcraft Tutorials, Links and Info / Colored text on signs - Donor Reward
« on: February 02, 2015, 10:32:39 PM »
This tutorial is for those players who have gained the ability to use colorful text on signs as a donations reward. You can learn more about the donations rewards here: http://u.famcraft.com/2y

Colorful text on signs is a fun and easy way to spruce up your designs!

To type with colored text on signs, simply type the color or format code you would like to have before you type the word(s). It will show up as black text until you finish typing the sign and click "Done". When it is complete, your colors will show up. :D

For example, &eHello would show up as Hello

If you wish to use a color AND formatting such as bold or italic, you will need to specify the color code first, and then the formatting code.

For example, &3&lHello would show up as Hello

Color Chart:

&l = bold

&m = strikethrough

&n = underline

&o = italic

&r = reset  (to return to normal text)

In the image below, the white boxes show what was typed to make the signs have the color and formatting effects you see:

Famcraft Survival / Whitelisted? :O
« on: January 09, 2015, 04:32:08 AM »
Oh noes! I saw a message about something something whitelist D: What does it mean? WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?

First of all- it's Okay! We promise! :D Here are some answers to your most frequently asked questions about this message.

Q. What in the world is a "whitelist" ?

A. A whitelist is a list with the names of players who ARE allowed to play on a server. Players who are not on this list can not log in while the whitelist is active.

Q. Why we gotta be whitelising all the sudden? D:

A. Here at Famcraft we are constantly looking for ways to improve the safety of our happy little community. We are always trying out new ideas. Some you see, some are more behind the scenes. This just happens to be more publicly visible than some of the other things we do to keep you all safe. :D

Q. Am *I* on the whitelist?

A. You along with 4,477 of your favorite Famcrafters are on the whitelist :D

Q. But.. but... what if I'm NOT on the whitelist?

A. Message an admin on the forum and we will look into it for you.

Q. Is the whitelist FOREVER? D:

A. Absolutely not :D It's just temporary, but the Admins may turn it on and off at different times depending on the servers needs at any given time. Whitelisting may last seconds, minutes or hours.

Q. Well, what if the whitelist is on, and I want my sister/brother/cousin/friend to join on their brand new account?

A. Ask for an Admin in game. We can add the new account to the whitelist so they can get in game and play :D If no Admin is around, they can keep checking back till the whitelist is not active.

Q. So, to be clear,  is Famcraft whitelist only now?

A. Nope! Same old Famcraft you've always known and loved. Sometimes, we just gotta whitelist for a few minutes or a few hours even. It's no biggie. <3

Plea to be unbanned / A note for parents pleaing for a child
« on: January 02, 2015, 12:32:29 PM »

We understand a lot of parents are unhappy to hear their child has been banned. Parents often state that their child was simply too young to understand and follow the rules.

We believe all Famcrafters are capable of following the core rules here. A very young player may benefit from having an adult go over the rules with them so they understand what is expected of them.

If you truly feel your child is too young to understand and follow the rules, then you might wish to consider starting them out on a single-player world and give them a chance to learn more about the basic game mechanics.

We keep logs of all conversation that occurs on the server. We also have tools that allow us to see which players have broken or placed blocks, or removed items from chests among other things. We never ban without a reason. If you do not know why your child was banned, please feel free to ask.

We will not accept generic pleas simply asking for pardon. We like to take the opportunity to make sure the parent and child both understand what caused the ban, and how to avoid getting into trouble in the future.

Also, you are always welcome to play alongside your child here on Famcraft if you'd like to offer them additional guidance. We welcome players of all ages.

Thank you for taking the time to help your child post a plea.

Plea to be unbanned / How soon should I expect a reply to my plea?
« on: January 02, 2015, 12:17:29 PM »
It can take a very long time to receive a reply to your plea. Pleas are NOT our top priority as we do make the rules very clear, up front. If you break a rule and get yourself banned, we don't tend to be in a huge hurry to see you back in game.
The players who are currently on the server following all the rules and requiring assistance from the staff and admin team take priority over the pleas of banned players. We do get to these pleas as soon as we reasonably feel that we can be that days, weeks. months or longer. Very good players who have made a simple mistake and plea immediately often get faster replies- but not always.

Posting multiple pleas or posting replies to yourself on your plea thread will in no way help speed up this process. Sometimes, posting additional pleas or replies can get you banned from the forum until we have time to review your plea and make a decision. Adding hateful comments to your plea will simply make sure you stay banned.

Additionally, sending forum mail directly to staff members may cause further delay. Please do not mail a staff member about your plea. We all visit the forum frequently throughout the day. If you have posted, we will see it.

Famcraft Tutorials, Links and Info / Colorful text in Books
« on: December 29, 2014, 12:47:30 PM »
There are other ways to do this, but this is the easiest way to add color to your books will likely be to copy the codes below to your clipboard, then paste them into your book, and start typing.

To copy and paste the code:

1.)  left click and drag your mouse to highlight ONLY the color code, the color code is the § symbol and the character next to it.

2.) On your keyboard, press ctrl+c to copy the color code.

3.) Click in the open book on Minecraft where you want to type.

4.) Press ctrl + v on your keyboard to paste the code. You WILL NOT see the code or symbol pasted into your book. They are invisible :o

5.) Start typing right where you pasted the invisible color code. Your words should be the color indicated by the code. :D

Code = Color

§0 = Black

§1 = Dark Blue

§2 = Dark Green

§3 = Dark Aqua

§4 = Red

§5 = Dark Purple

§6 = Gold

§7 = Gray

§8 = Dark Gray

§9 = Blue

§a = Green

§b = Aqua

§c = Light Red

§d = Light Purple

§e = Yellow

§f = White

Formatting:

§l = Bold

§m = Strikethrough

§n = Underline

§o = Italic

§r = reset formatting or color to normal

*** PLEASE read everything here. You MUST reply to this post with your registered name if you wish to be voiced. Simply registering is NOT enough. You need to reply here, as well. ***

*** Please note: IRC is NOT a place to log in so you can have conversations with YOURSELF to and from the game. We will REMOVE your auto-voice privilege if we see this as it is very spammy and makes real chat difficult to follow. ***

*** ADDITIONALLY...  IRC is NOT your own personal direct line to the staff and admin team. ALL player/server concerns, whitelist request, ban appeals,  ideas, notions or opinions need to be communicated over the forum or in game. IRC is not the place. Thank you for understanding.

As many of you have noticed we've decided to change the way we handle giving voice on IRC.

"Voice" on IRC means your ability to speak in the public #Famcraft IRC channel.

In the past, it was simple. You'd join #Famcraft IRC, and just start chatting away, no questions asked. This is because you are a Famcrafter, and Famcrafters ROCK!  8)

Sadly, not everyone is a Famcrafter :( Some people are just very bored meanypants. Last week, a group of very bored potty-mouthed NON-Famcrafters hopped right into our IRC channel, and said many rude and otherwise inappropriate things. Obviously, we do not want to ever see anything like this happen again. We've made some changes to help better protect our community.

As a result of these changes, currently when you join #Famcraft IRC, you have to wait for a staff member to notice you've joined and then they will grant you voice. (The ability to speak on IRC) This is not ideal for players OR staff.
We know some players have been very unhappy with these changes, but keep in mind it's not much fun for staff to have the extra job of watching for players to join irc so they can grant them voice either. Staff stays busy enough! lol.

We want to offer an option that may be helpful for some of you. This option will allow you to join #Famcraft IRC, and be voiced automatically upon joining. However- This option DOES take some effort on YOUR PART.

In order to be auto-voiced when you join IRC, you will need to register your IRC nick name. We CAN NOT help you with this beyond providing these instructions here. We do not own or operate the IRC network as a whole. We just have the #Famcraft IRC channels. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing we can do to help you register your nick name. However, if you follow the steps provided below, you should be able to register your nick name easily. If you have trouble with it, contact an adult you trust IRL, such as a parent, guardian or other relative and ask them to help you.

Registering your nick name has the additional benefit of protecting your name so no one else can register it and use it.  Please note, you will lose your registration if you do not log in at least one time every 30 days.

NO MATTER WHAT, Please DO NOT post the info you use to register on this thread. Post your registed nick name and ONLY the nick name. DO NOT post the email address OR the password you used in this forum, and do not share that information with anyone else. This is very important. Always keep your passwords private and safe.

To Register Your IRC Nick Name

1.) Join IRC via the webchat here: https://famcraft.com/index.php?action=chat , or your favorite IRC client using the name you would like to register. Some names will already be registered, so be sure to have an alternative in mind. Remember, your IRC name needs to be similar enough to your in game name that we will know who you are.

2.) Select the "Status" Tab up top on webchat, OR look for the Status Window in your IRC client. The "Status" window may be named "EsperNet" This is an important step. It can keep you from accidentally sending your password and email address into public chat.

3.) Type this in the "Status" window:
/msg NickServ REGISTER yourpassword youremail@example.com

4.) Check your email for a message from "EsperNet Account Registration"

The email will say something like this:

Quote
Cherub,

In order to complete your account registration, you must type the following
command on IRC:

/msg NickServ VERIFY REGISTER Cherub weirdlineoftext

Thank you for registering your account on the EsperNet IRC network!

5.) Hightlight, right-click and copy the line of text that says "/msg NickServ VERIFY REGISTER YourName weirdlineoftext", make sure you do not copy any white space before the text. So copy only exactly that one line of text.

6.) Paste that one line of text you just copied- "/msg NickServ VERIFY REGISTER YourName weirdlineoftext" into the "Staus" window.

7.) Verify that you see the message:

[20:02] -NickServ- YourName has now been verified.
[20:02] -NickServ- Thank you for verifying your e-mail address! You have taken steps in ensuring that your registrations are not exploited.

8.) Now, each time you join #Famcraft IRC, type the following to log in and be automatically voiced-

/msg NickServ IDENTIFY  YourPassword

9.) Post your registered nick name here so we can get you set up to receive voice automatically. Until we set it up for you, it will not work. Letting us know you are registered is the final step. Again, ONLY post your nick name here. DO NOT post the email or password you used.

How to post a screenshot on the forum.

I only have a Windows PC for this tutorial. I know I do things a bit differently than some people, but I wanted to share my way for finding my screenshots folder. I also want to explain a bit about your options for sharing images on the forum.

Please remember to only share family friendly images. If you are not sure if you should share an image- don't share it. It's always better to be safe than sorry. If you are unsure, please ask a parent or another adult you trust before sharing an image here.

How to Take and Locate a Screenshots

1.) Press F2 to take a screenshot. Don't want any chat text on your screen? You can press F1 to turn off the text, F2 to take your screenshot, and F1 again to turn back on your chat text.

To locate your screenshot:

1.) Press the [Esc] key on your keyboard.

2.) Click the "Options" button on the menu screen.

3.) Click the "Resource Packs..." button on  the "Options" screen.

4.) Click "Open Resource Pack Folder" on the bottom left.

This will place you in a folder similar to Anna> AppData >Roaming > .minecraft >resourcepacks

5.) Move UP one directory. In Windows 7, I do this by clicking on ".minecraft" in my address bar.

6.) *Bonus Step* Don't wanna do all this next time? You should be in the ".minecraft" folder now. Right click the "screenshots" folder and click "Send to >"  Select "Desktop (create shortcut). Now, next time you need to find your screenshots, you will just need to look for a folder named "Screenshots - shortcut" on your desktop.

7.) Click to open your screenshots folder and look for your screenshot. My newest images are always at the bottom.

8.) Copy/Paste the screenshot to your desktop, or any easy-to-find location on your PC.

Clan Fund Raisers / Clan Fund Raisers Rules and Guidelines
« on: November 30, 2014, 02:17:34 PM »
We ask that players do not ask for Famcoins or items for themselves of their clan in general chat or through the /msg or /mail systems.

If you would like to hold a clan fundraiser within your own clan, please feel free to do so, as long as you plan and hold the fundraising event in clan chat. You can use clan chat with the following commands-

To join clan chat- /clan clanchat join
To leave clan chat /clan clanchat leave

Please do not bring this discussion into public chat.

If you wish to advertise your fundraiser, you may do so here in this forum section. In order to advertise here, you must feature actual fund raising services, items for sale or activities for which you intend to use earned funds for clan related resources.

Any post asking for "free money" or outright donations will be removed. Donations may be offered by players, and may be accepted by clans, but can not be solicited here. This is a place to EARN money for your clan. Every player and every clan on this server must work to earn their money. Please do not ask players to give you money for free.

Remember, any clan member can /bank deposit funds for the clan, but only players designated by the clan leaders can /bank withdraw these funds from the clan bank. If you /bank deposit, this money is a donation to the clan and you may be unable to recover those Famcoins, even if you choose to leave the clan. As such, all donations are considered final.

To use this forum, create a new post with the name of your clan in the title.

All fundraising posts should include the following info

*Name of the clan

*Funding goal

*What you hope to do with the clan funds

*Exactly what service or item you are offering

*The timeframe for your fundraising event/activity/sale

Fund raising ideas:

In game, without help from other players-

*Visit /warp eco once a day to receive a free daily allowance of 1000 Famcoins

*Consider voting for Famcraft- Use your in-game-name when voting to receive 500 coins per vote. There are several different places you can vote. You can find links at /warp eco, or on the home page at famcraft.com

*Work your jobs. You can learn more about jobs at /warp jobs

You can have up to four jobs of your choice:

-To see a list of jobs - /jobs browse
-To see more info about any job- /jobs info jobname
-To join a job - /jobs join jobname
-To leave a job - /jobs leave jobname

*Use the auction house to list structures or mall shops, or items you have collected - auctions.famcraft.com

Fund raising ideas for funds from clan members only-

* Work together to compare jobs and see which jobs each clan member can help with for the maximum income. For example, see if you can get your farmers to help collect food for the clan while your builders help expand the clan base. More income can mean more donations to the clan.

*Start a clan mall or shopping area for clan members only. Often, members of your clan go to the mall to buy basic items like stone or dirt. You may have lots of extra items you do not need or want in your storage room. When clan members buy from one another, it keeps more money in the clan.

*Help collect items for your clan storage. Your clan won't have to buy logs, stone brick, wool, ect. if you help keep a steady supply coming in.

*Look for natural resources for your clan. A skeleton spawner, for example, can provide your clan with a way to get quick xp, bones for bonemeal, white dye  or taming wolves, and dropped bows and arrows among other things. A skeleton spawner costs 500k from an admin. With enough looking, you may find one in the wilderness- for free, and be able to build a spawner room around it for your clan.

*Look for affordable memberships to resources you might not be able to afford. Sometimes it is less expensive to buy access to another player or clan's xp farm rather than try to build your own.

Fund raising ideas for earning funds from non-clan members-

*Offer to work for other players clearing lands, making farms or gardens, or gathering animals.

*Offer to sell items that take a little more time and effort to make. A lot of players will pay well for items that take multiple steps to create, such as bookshelves or stained glass. Enchanted books are also often in demand, but time consuming to make. With the free xp farms on the free farms gate at /warp sg, you can easily make quite a few books in your spare time.

*If your clan owns one xp farm, consider selling memberships to other players to collect funds for additional spawners. Remember if you sell access to a spawner, you need to have rules clearly posted as well as signs stating which players have purchased access and are allowed there.

*Host a contest or competition with an entry fee, give half of the money you collect as a prize to the winner. All contest need a protected area, and a  proper forum post explaining details, prizes, and a time-frame. You can purchase a star gate for a properly organized, admin arrproved competition for 300k, or you can teleport players to the area with /tpa. Please do not start contests you will be unable to see though completion.

*Use the auction house to list clan created structures or mall shops, or items you have collected - auctions.famcraft.com

*If you sell items, offer to deliver needed items to a public warp such as /warp mall, or /spawn so no one loses money traveling.

Ideas for raising funds on the forum-  :o

*Offer to make signatures for players to use on their post for a reasonable fee. Make sure to keep the signatures a reasonable size, and use your own artwork/screenshots.

*Offer to make drawings of player skins or other things for a reasonable fee.

*Any post found to be in violation of the rules or the guidelines stated in this post may be edited or removed at admin discretion.

**Please DO NOT use this forum to ask for money for yourself as an individual player. Money is easy enough to earn that no player should be here asking for personal donations or to host a personal fundraiser. We understand a lot of players want Coinshop access or Coinshop items/permissions bundles. You will need to earn that money on your own. This is ONLY to raise funds for your clan.
