General Discussion / Re: new town space avalible
« on: March 05, 2017, 11:48:42 AM »
I'd be interested in some building space there.

You've got the beginnings of a cool town, and the ships really blow my mind! So impressive!

Do you have any kind of a town flavor or design style that you're going for?

I can't play Minecraft at work, so I play Minecraft at work.

Screenshots and the chat rulebook should probably be updated to reflect that "Multiplayer Settings..." is now "Chat Settings...".

Bugs and glitches / Re: nether portal
« on: December 02, 2016, 02:39:32 PM »
The issue of going to someone else's portal may not exactly be a glitch, but a result of the tricky math between Overworld and Nether portal coordinates.

http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Nether_portal#Portal_linkage_between_Overworld_and_Nether

Quote
Thus, for a given location (X, Y, Z) in the Overworld, the corresponding coordinates in the Nether are (floor(X ÷ 8), Y, floor(Z ÷ 8)) (the Java floor() method gives the largest integer less than or equal to the argument, so an X- or Z-coordinate of -29.5 becomes -30, not -29). Conversely, for a location (X, Y, Z) in the Nether, the matching Overworld coordinates are (floor(X × 8), Y, floor(Z × 8)).
...
First, if the portal block in which the player is standing has been used recently, then it will re-use the destination that was chosen the last time; in this sense, portals do "remember" their linked pairs, but only for about 60 seconds (1200 game world ticks, or 600 redstone ticks)
...
If the player's origin portal has not been used recently, then a new destination will be computed. First, the game converts the entry coordinates into destination coordinates as above: The entry X- and Z-coordinates are multiplied or divided by 8 (or 3) depending on direction of travel, while the Y-coordinate is not changed.

Starting at these destination coordinates, the game looks for the closest active portal...

--and so on.

At any rate, I think I read in chat once that an admin can "fix" a portal's location. If you catch one in-game, it might be worth asking if that's possible.

May I please be whitelisted there? I'm interested in seeing how quickly the Wastelands triumph over me.

Thanks!

Remember to "sneak/crouch" while trying to connect a block to stairs by clicking on the existing stairs (right-ctrl + right-click) or else you will find yourself sitting instead of placing the block.

Famcraft Survival / Re: Famcraft Classic FAQ

The button to stop the rain at /warp sun didn't work when I tried pressing it.

Famcraft Classic has been rebranded as Gloomy Famcraft.

If you're wondering why you would want to explore Classic--um, I don't know. Maybe because of stuff like this?

/home doesn't seem to work the same in Classic as it does in Main.

In Classic, typing "/home" or "/home (wrongHomeName)" seems to send me to my most recently set home, instead of giving me a list of my actual homes, as in Main.

I'm having trouble locking a door on Classic. Existing protections appear to be in place, and automatic locks get created when placing a chest or furnace, but manual locks seem to not be created with /lock.

Anyone else?

UPDATE: I was trying to lock a birch door--won't work. I tried to lock an oak door--it locked. Maybe the different flavors of door need to be added to a config file?

Is this where you're collecting notes on Famcraft Classic (minor) issues? It doesn't seem worth bothering anyone in-game.

  • The buttons at /warp jobs tell me I'm can't use them. (/join _____ still works)
  • /kit allowance has a different (old?) name: /kit warpmoney
  • "Famcraft Info and Announcements" at Main spawn village entrance still refer to 1.8 and 1.7.

Famcraft Survival / Re: Famcraft has updated to 1.9.4
« on: June 08, 2016, 04:38:41 PM »
6. Next to "Use Version" click the dropdown box and select 1.9.4

This is an important step to pay attention to, because if you leave it at "latest version" you'll start Minecraft 1.10 and not be able to party with the Famcraft crowd!

Other Minecraft themed creations / Creative screenshots?
« on: May 23, 2016, 04:27:08 PM »
I'm asking for a little clarification on what's allowed to be posted here.

I'm always interested in seeing what other players are able to build on Famcraft's Survival server, but I'm also interested in what people can do in Creative mode. Are Creative screenshots allowed here (besides the occasional temp Famcraft creative environments)?

I ask because I realize that if these screenshots didn't come from a player's Single Player adventures, they would have to be from some other creative server, and the "other server" is where the waters would get murky. Also, it might not be easy to tell one from the other.

It seems to me that the obvious "no talk of other servers" rule would still cover someone mentioning the location in the forum post itself or by sneaking the location into the screenshot. But then I also get that might be more difficult to police in such posts, so a blanket "no screenshots that don't originate from Famcraft" rule might be simpler.

So I'm not advocating one way or the other; just asking if this has already been asked and answered elsewhere before. Thanks!
